Yankees' Powerful Prospect Smashes Third Homer Of Spring Training

The towering 6-foot-7 Jones was selected by the Yankees in the first round (25th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt University. He signed for $2,880,800 and began his professional career with a strong showing in his debut, posting solid numbers in limited action.

His early minor league path included challenges, particularly with strikeouts in 2023 and 2024, where high whiff rates raised concerns about his contact ability despite evident raw power, speed, and athleticism. After a 2024 season that prompted internal discussions within the organization, Jones rebounded impressively in 2025.

Starting the year at Double-A Somerset, he batted .274 with 16 home runs in 49 games before earning a promotion to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in late June. Across 116 minor league games that season, he combined for a .274 average, 35 home runs, 80 RBIs, 29 stolen bases, and a .933 OPS, showing improved plate discipline with a higher walk rate and better consistency at the plate. The Yankees added him to the 40-man roster in November 2025.

Entering 2026 spring training as a legitimate contender for a roster spot—ranked as the Yankees’ No. 4 prospect—Jones has certainly showed off his power.

As he approaches his 25th birthday in May, Jones remains a polarizing talent with plus tools and massive upside, though swing-and-miss elements persist. His 2025 breakout has positioned him close to a potential major league debut, with ongoing performances in camp fueling discussions about his role in the Yankees’ outfield picture.
