Boston’s World Cup moment comes fast and loud.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off June 11, and just two days later, the tournament arrives in “Boston Stadium” — FIFA’s event name for Gillette Stadium in Foxborough — for a run of seven matches from June 13 through July 9.
The teams (and star power) coming to Boston
Boston’s group-stage slate is built around a few repeat visitors and some true heavyweight brands.
You’ll see Scotland twice (including their opener), Norway twice (including a marquee match vs. France), plus single-game appearances from England, Morocco, Ghana and Haiti — and one match that includes a playoff qualifier (Bolivia/Iraq/Suriname) that won’t be finalized until closer to the tournament.
That’s a lot of styles in one venue:
- England typically brings a Premier League-loaded roster and the kind of traveling support that turns any stadium into a major occasion.
- France and Morocco are the type of teams that can arrive with global headliners and deep, tournament-ready squads — the kind that can make a quarterfinal feel like a final.
- Norway has become appointment viewing in big tournaments because of its elite attacking talent and “anyone can be beaten” ceiling.
- Scotland matches are built for atmosphere, with a fan culture that plays as loudly as the team.
- Ghana is always dangerous in tournament settings: pace, power, and the ability to turn a match with one moment.
- Haiti gives Boston a classic World Cup ingredient: an underdog that can make a group chaotic in the best way.
At least seven different national teams will play at Gillette, including England, France and Morocco among the headliners.
Quick look: how the Boston schedule is shaped
Boston hosts five group-stage matches (June 13, 16, 19, 23, 26), then shifts into knockout soccer with a Round of 32 match on June 29 and a quarterfinal on July 9 — the kind of late-stage game where the tournament’s biggest stars often collide.
