Why Khloé Kardashian Says She Slapped Tristan Thompson During His Big Romantic Surprise

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson have had plenty of tabloid chapters, but this one plays like a sitcom scene that got a little too real.

As Us Weekly reported, Kardashian recently shared the story of a “mortifying” romantic surprise Thompson set up while they were still together — and how it ended with her slapping him.

On a Feb. 11 episode of her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Kardashian said Thompson arranged for singer Giveon to show up at her home and serenade her — a big, cinematic play that might’ve worked… if she hadn’t been furious with him at the time. She described being told to “come outside,” then watching Giveon pour his heart into the performance as Thompson tried to sit close — and she kept “slapping” him while the singer stayed locked in and kept singing.

The detail that makes it extra uncomfortable (and honestly, kind of hilarious in hindsight) is that Kardashian said she was such a fan of Giveon’s voice… she still couldn’t stand the guy who booked him. At one point, she even went inside to bring their daughter, True, outside because she wanted a “third person” buffer to create some space from Thompson.

For sports fans, the optics are almost too on the nose: Thompson, an NBA big man who’s made a career around rebounds and second chances, tried to box out a bad vibe with an over-the-top gesture. But as Kardashian’s story makes clear, romantic theatrics don’t fix trust issues — especially given that their relationship included infidelity and ultimately ended for good in 2021.

Today, they share two kids and continue to co-parent. And if there’s a takeaway from the slap-heard-around-the-serenade, it’s simple: sometimes the biggest move isn’t a grand surprise — it’s reading the room.
