PWHL Players Association Votes To Allow Salary Disclosure

With the PWHL’s first-ever expansion draft looming, the players association revealed its members voted to allow salary disclosure throughout the league, The Athletic’s Hailey Salvian reported Tuesday.

This marks a significant change for the players and their agents, by giving the latter visibility into how much other players are earning and, in turn, how much salary cap space each team has when negotiating with them.

“I’m proud of the players,” PWHLPA executive director Malaika Underwood said, per Salvian. “It’s a huge step in the right direction in terms of transparency. … This will be a good tool for players as they consider opportunities across the league.”

An “overwhelming majority” of players voted in favor of the change, according to Salvian. The expansion draft takes place June 9, but the pre-expansion draft signing period begins Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET.

Each of the original six franchises has the opportunity to protect three players from selection in the exclusive signing window and the expansion draft. Once a team has relinquished two players, they are permitted to protect one additional player. Players eligible to be protected must either be under contract for the 2025-26 season or the team must hold their playing rights through the 2025-26 season.

The PWHLPA will not freely publish a public salary database, but will provide the information upon request, as per Salvian.

According to the collective bargaining agreement, the 2025-26 salary cap will be $1.34 million, with minimum salaries set at $37,131.59.
