The New England Patriots had 35 sacks last regular season, ranking near the bottom of the league, and adding a pass rusher could be a focus this offseason.

Eliot Wolf and Mike Vrabel have already identified the pass rush as an area of focus this offseason, but Rodney Harrison wants to see the Patriots add a true star to get after opposing quarterbacks. Harrison won two Super Bowls with the Patriots and was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2019. He knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl.

“I think the most glaring need is pass rush,” Harrison told MassLive’s Karen Guregian. “That’s something they have to get corrected. They need a stud pass rusher, a guy that’s going to be a difference maker.”

“The Texans, and all of those teams, they have difference makers on the team,” Harrison added. “Mike (Vrabel) has done a really good job coaching these guys … Look how far K’Lavon Chaisson has come. But overall, the talent isn’t there. The Patriots need to level up in terms of talent. You have to go out and get difference makers. And it starts up front.”

The pass rush could surely use a star, but who? Who can be the elite pass rusher Harrison wants to see on the Patriots?  Harrison wants to see Maxx Crosby on the Patriots and urged the team to go get him.

“I’m not giving up two firsts for him, but I’d give up a first and a second for Crosby,” Harrison said. “I would work hard to try and get him in there. That’s the way you get to the promised land. Getting guys like him.”

Crosby reportedly told Dianna Russini that he wants to play for Mike Vrabel. Crosby has shut down trade rumors, and Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek has also noted that Crosby is not getting moved. However, that could all change for the right offer.

Crosby has 69.5 sacks in seven seasons and is one of the best pass rushers in the league. He is a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time Second-Team All-Pro.
