The Boston Celtics turned in a historically efficient offensive performance on Friday night against the Brooklyn Nets, with the end result being a 148-111 beatdown. Everyone who took the floor turned in a solid outing for the C’s, and that included rookie Hugo Gonzalez, who may have had a bit of extra motivation in this game.
Gonzalez has been a sparkplug off the bench for the Celtics this season, and he appeared to have some extra tenacity when going up against fellow rookie Egor Demin on Friday. As it turns out, not only were Gonzalez and Demin formerly teammates on Real Madrid in Spain, but they were also roommates during their time together. Unsurprisingly, the rookie duo linked up and swapped jerseys after this game.

Through 54 games, Gonzalez’s numbers won’t jump off the page (3.9 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 0.6 APG, 47.8 FG%), but he’s part of a growing crop of young two-way wings who have earned a big role in head coach Joe Mazzulla’s rotation. Demin, meanwhile, is averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 39.9% from the field after getting selected with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Both of these guys appear to have bright futures ahead of them, but Gonzalez’s C’s got the better of Demin’s Nets for a big win on Friday night. Boston will look to continue its winning ways when it returns to action on Sunday night for a clash with the Philadelphia 76ers.
