Fleet Star Aerin Frankel Voted Finalist For PWHL Award

Another Boston Fleet star could be in line for some hardware this season.

The PWHL announced Thursday that Aerin Frankel was one of three players voted as a finalist for Goaltender of the Year. The other finalists were Ann-Renée Desbiens of the Montréal Victoire and Gwyneth Philips of the Ottawa Charge.

Frankel became the first two-time finalist for the award. The 25-year-old led the league with 23 starts, 1342:18 minutes played, and 591 saves. Frankel finished second in the regular season with 12 wins, a .921 save percentage, and she finished fifth with a 2.28 goals-against average. The two-time gold medalist became the first goalie to reach 1,000 saves in PWHL history and led the league with five games with 35 or more saves.

The Fleet goaltender faces tough competition with standout rookie Phillips and presumed favorite Desbiens. The 2022 Olympic gold medalist anchored the Victoire to the best record in the regular season. The 31-year-old led the league with 15 wins, a 1.86 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. The Canadian goalie also went 14 straight games allowing two goals or fewer.

Hilary Knight was voted as a finalist for PWHL Forward of the Year, and the winners will be announced June 25 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa.
