Just minutes after being involved in a scary on-field collision with teammate Roman Anthony, Boston Red Sox centerfielder Ceddanne Rafaela homered off Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale during Friday afternoon’s Grapefruit League spring training game.

Rafaela’s home run was a two-run shot, as Anthony preceded his teammate’s dinger with a scorching single up the middle off Sale.

“Anthony, in his first at-bat since the collision, grounded a 94 mph fastball up the middle (exit velo 100 mph) for a single off of Sale,” Alex Speier of The Boston Globe posted on Bluesky.
“Roman Anthony gets himself a single off Chris Sale his first time up since the collision, and then Ceddanne Rafaela follows with a two-run home run,” The Boston Herald’s Mac Cerullo added. “Looks like they’re both feeling ok.”

Rafaela — who was recently included on Buster Olney’s top-10 MLB centerfielders list — had the second Red Sox home run of the day after fellow outfielder Jarren Duran took Sale deep in the first inning.
